In 2021, after spending hours in the operating room where her doctors desperately tried to save her life during a routine medical procedure, Mrs Ignatius died when the hospital ran out of blood. Despite frantic efforts by the hospital and family members, the lack of tools to properly plan for supplies ended her life. Mrs Ignatius’ death is one of the many thousands which could have been prevented if hospitals could accurately predict the volume of medical supplies needed for every patient, every medical procedure, and at every point in time.

To prevent deaths like Mrs Ignatius’ from the consequences of a poor medical supply chain system, Africa needs a proactive healthcare delivery platform that can predict demand and match that demand. LifeBank has continued to explore ways through which it can use innovation and technology to solve inherent problems for our patients and the hospitals that serve them. LifeBank is actively deploying predictive solutions aimed at proactive healthcare service delivery which significantly increases the number of lives saved.

Thus, as Africa’s leading health technology startup, LifeBank has entered a partnership with Barcelona-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) firm, benshi.ai. This partnership will see both health-focused organisations collaborate in using Machine Learning (ML) and Personalisation to accurately monitor, track, and predict healthcare service delivery across Africa.

Since 2016, LifeBank has been on the frontlines of improving the lives of patients across Africa by ensuring the quick, safe, and reliable delivery of blood, oxygen, and medical supplies on demand. These efforts have been aimed at reducing healthcare-related problems like maternal mortality, postpartum haemorrhage, and accident-related deaths due to a shortage of blood.

In partnering with benshi.ai, LifeBank can increasingly support the healthcare facilities it serves through better mapping, predictive analysis of medical supply needs, and proactive delivery of crucial medical supplies.

Leveraging the unique capabilities of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, hospitals can procure medical supplies through data-driven needs analysis, thereby improving their processes, shortening the waiting period for on-demand delivery, and ultimately delivering better healthcare to their patients.

LifeBank and benshi.ai envision a future where all medical supplies required for every birth at LifeBank-affiliated centres are adequately prepared for and delivered beforehand to ensure the safe and healthy delivery of the child and post-delivery wellbeing of the mother.

Through its use of cutting-edge technology in healthcare delivery, LifeBank has attracted top talent and established itself as a leading health-tech organisation in Africa. The company’s partnerships with organisations such as benshi.ai, supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and key global partners such as MSD for Mothers, Google Black Founders Fund, and Johnson & Johnson, have further cemented its reputation as an innovative and trustworthy partner.

The partnership between LifeBank and benshi.ai is a game-changer for the healthcare industry in Africa. By harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, we are able to streamline and optimise the healthcare supply chain, ensuring that healthcare facilities have the essential medical supplies they need to provide the best possible care to their patients.
